A Spectacular New England Adventure!
No vacation to New England would be complete without taking the time to view and photograph the spectacular whales and other marine life that visit the nutrient rich waters of The Gulf of Maine. We are fortunate to have some of the most productive whale feeding grounds anywhere in the North Atlantic just mere miles off our coast.
It is the same nutrient rich waters that have supported Gloucester, Massachusetts’ world famous fishing fishing fleet for the past 400 years that are responsible for bringing the abundance of whales, birds, and other marine life to feed here each summer.
~GLOUCESTER, MA HAS BEEN VOTED ONE OF THE “TOP-10 AREAS IN THE WORLD FOR WHALE WATCHING” BY USA TODAY (5/24/2007)
Over the past three decades whale watching has become Gloucester’s “other” major industry, with as many as 100,000 people per year coming here to view the great whales with often gather in large number just of our coast. Gloucester’s unique location, directly between two major whale feeding areas, gives easy access to some of the best whale watching anywhere in the world.
~STELLWAGEN BANK NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY
Every spring Humpback, Finback, and Minke whales (and occasionally other species too!) travel from their breeding ground in the tropics to feed on the abundance of small schooling fish that are found here. This provides researchers and whale watchers alike with a tremendous opportunity to observe, study, photograph, and experience sights that normally one would have to travel to distant corners of the planet to witness.
The extreme importance of this area to the whales led to the creation of “Stellwagen Bank Nation Marine Sanctuary” in 1992.
The idea behind the sanctuary is to ensure not only that the whale have a safe, clean, and productive area to return to each year, but also to serve as an educational portal for the public.
We at 7 Seas Whale Watch are proud to be able to share Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary with you, and we hope to make your visit here here as memorable, enjoyable, and education as possible.
That’s why every one of our whale watches is hosted by an experienced marine biologist. Our expert team of naturalists have studied whales not only here in New England, but also in Hawaii, Alaska, Patagonia, the Caribbean, and Antarctica!
